| Description | We start the walk from the Visitor Centre and head for the lake. We then head up ( a very short ascent) onto open pasture land and head for the village of Holbeck and pass Woodhouse Hall. We then cross the A60 and head into the Welbeck Estate (Dukeries Estate) after a short walk we enter the Dukeries carpark and head for the court yard for the coffee stop (20 mins). After the stop we will head into the grounds of the estate passing the creepy ruins of Oaksetts Lodge (there’s your reason for coming on this walk!) we pass by the tunnel skylights (we are not going in the tunnels) and we cross the bridge that goes over Gouldsmeadow Lake to the left and Shrubbery Lake to the right and then pick up the Robin Hood way for short distance. Next we pass through South Lodge and head into woodland on well defined paths. Once we are out of the woods we’ll stop for lunch. We’ll follow the path to Oak Wood and West through farmland and sometime later cross the A60 again aiming for Birks Cottages and Hall Leys Farm and then head for the village of Belph and head to Penny Green Cottage to cross the stream so we can walk around the quarry and get to Henrymoor Lane and head back to Creswell Visitor Centre. | Additional Information | Toilets at the start in the visitor centre. No steep ascents on this route. Bring sunscreen. Please wear suitable clothing & footwear for this time of year. Bring refreshments & a packed lunch. The ‘coffee stop’ will be in the court yard of the Dukeries, time to top up your water and toilets are available. For those who know the area you can park in the car park at the Dukeries and take the direct path into Creswell Visitor Centre, it’ll take you about 20 mins, don’t do this unless you know the route Dogs need to be on short leads LIVESTOCK ABOUT |
