As the weekends away and meals out are always oversubscribed and tend to fill up almost as soon as they hit the website, we have to restrict them to current members of SWG40s. However, everyone is welcome on a pub night out, especially if you are new to the group or you are thinking about joining us.

Details: We are having a weekend away In Beaumaris, Anglesey Friday 2nd of October to Sunday 4th October.
Anglesey is an island known for its dramatic coastline, sandy beaches, charming villages and peaceful countryside. Come and explore its landscapes and hidden coves.
Please book your own accommodation for Friday and Saturday. There are various accommodations around Beaumaris including self catering and hotels.
Walks will be added for Friday Saturday and Sunday at a later date. If anyone would like to lead a walk please get in touch with Mandy.

The Hound of the Baskervilles at Sheffield Library Theatre

Details: When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face, and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr Watson in tow, to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death, and investigate the ancient curse of The Hound of the Baskervilles.
Packed with verbal and visual ingenuity, this spoof version sees just three actors playing nearly twenty characters.

A weekend In Haworth

Details: We are having a weekend away In Haworth, West Yorkshire. Friday 26 to Sunday 28 March.
Haworth is a village famous for its cobbles on Main Street, independents shops, bars and cafes and its connection to the Bronte sisters. It's surrounded by Moorland and is a fantastic base for walking and exploring.
Book your own accommodation for the weekend staying on 26 Friday and 27 Saturday night. Book early as its Easter weekend
The steam trains should be running throughout the day. Maybe you will make the time to take a ride on one.
Walks will be added at a later date and will include a walk to Top Withens, and a possible Railway Children walk too!

A week walking the Gower Coastal path

Details: Lucia and Roy are running a week’s walking holiday from Friday 21st May - Friday 28th May 2027 walking the Gower Coastal Path in South Wales.
The walk is just under 50 miles in total and we’ll be walking about 10 miles a day for 5 days. The first walk will be on Saturday 22nd May. We will have a day off on either the Monday or Tuesday depending on the weather. Car sharing will be involved as we will all drive to the end of the day's walk and leave some cars there before driving to the start point. At the end of the walk we drive to collect all the cars. Most walks are graded B2 with one A2 on the last day (Thursday 27th May). Group meals will be organised for the Friday and Wednesday nights. This is a book your own accommodation trip. It is suggested you find accommodation in the Mumbles where Roy and Lucia are staying and where the group meals will be organised.
The Gower has a beautiful coast line and the main points of interest are:
Worm’s Head: A dramatic, dragon-shaped tidal headland at the western tip of the peninsula. It is only reachable at low tide, making it a thrilling (but strictly time-sensitive) walk.
Rhossili Bay: Often voted one of the best beaches in the world. It features miles of golden sand, the remains of the Helvetia shipwreck, and the steep steps leading to the Old Rectory.
Three Cliffs Bay: A spectacular, wild beach where the Pennard Pill river meets the sea. It is framed by three distinct limestone peaks and overlooked by the ruins of the 12th-century Pennard Castle.
Whiteford Point Lighthouse: Located in the north, this is the UK’s only remaining cast-iron, wave-swept lighthouse. It is accessible only at very low tide across the dunes of Whiteford National Nature Reserve.
Culver Hole: A mysterious, multi-story masonry cave built into the limestone cliffs near Port Eynon. It is thought to be an ancient dovecote or a smuggler’s hideout.
Oxwich Castle: A striking 16th-century fortified manor house perched on the cliffs overlooking Oxwich Bay.
