Walk Name | Whirlow to Hathersage |
Description | This shortish linear walk goes from ‘The Shelter’ the café in Whirlow Park to Hathersage. Paths are all well-made and though there may be muddy or steep stretches, it is not a difficult walk overall. The route climbs the Limb valley, on a relatively well-made path (though can be muddy), up to Ringinglow. We will then join the unadopted Houndkirk road for a couple of miles before turning right and going over Burbage Moor and along the top of the ridge towards Longshaw. After a toilet stop at Longshaw, we will descend Padley Gorge (watch out for tree roots and mud) and then take the woodland and river route into Hathersage. The route will take about 4 hours. Note that the walk leader will be walking from Nether Edge, and others may be walking from nearby locations like Beauchief if you would like company walking to the start, please say when you sign up and I will see who I can link you up with. For the return journey, there are regular buses back from Hathersage timed at 2.25, 3.33 and 4.22 (etc), each taking 22 mins to get to Whirlow. There is also a train from Hathersage to Dore/Totley and Sheffield at 2.43, 3.43 (etc). |
