Start Time | 9:55 am - EARLY START |
Walk Name | Langley Mill to Ilkeston |
Description | Take the Sheffield to Langley Mill train (10.06 SHF, 10.16 DRO,10.22 CHD, arr 10.40 at LGM), then walk through N Notts farmland to DH Lawrence houses & museum in Eastwood along some country lanes where Lawrence walked. There’ll be time to visit the house and the museum and there’s picnic tables and a cafe at the DH Lawrence museum. In the afternoon we walk along two C18th canals and over the Erewash river & the Bennerley Viaduct (Nottinghamshire's very own C19th wonder of the world) to Ilkeston station. Catch a return train to the stop where you got on - I’ll be taking a final refresher in the Sheffield Tap. It's nigh on 16 km/10 miles with two small hills; the rest is flat: proper excursion and day out. Return on trains around 5pm. |

Distance | 10 miles |
Additional Information | Buy an off-peak return to Ilkeston - it's cheaper than two singles. I recommend the Northern Rail app. There’s a lot of walking on ‘damp’ farm tracks with uneven footing - boots with ankle support are recommended. |
