Description | This exceptionally scenic walk with stunning views throughout visits two sites of protected flower strewn hay meadow and several places with close associations to Charlotte Bronte. We climb though fields, woodland and farmland from Hathersage up on to Stanage Edge via the Long Causeway. Lunch on the edge and we then descend back into Hathersage through woodland and open country taking in North Lees Hall, famous as the inspiration for Thornfield Hall in the novel Jane Eyre. |

Start Point Details | Bus shelter by the public toilets on main road (A6187) in Hathersage. Parking can be tricky in Hathersage. Station Approach has a few spaces and Dore Lane (going down to the viaduct) is usually good. Failing that, you can usually park in Outseats on Jagger's Lane. Additional Information | This is a public transport friendly walk. Leader will be catching the 9.50 am 272 bus from Sheffield Pond Street bus station arriving Hathersage 10.26 am. For the return journey the bus leaves Hathersage hourly at 11 minutes past the hour. Fare is £2 each way. You are welcome to join us at the start point but bear in mind parking issues in Hathersage. There is also a big pay and display next to the swimming pool on Oddfellows road and very limited on street parking. Numbers capped at 20 so please sign up early. Bring a packed lunch and plenty liquids. The ground is uneven in places and can be muddy and slippery so please ensure you have suitable footwear. Please ensure you are ready booted and equipped to start walking at the specified time. Dog Information Well behaved dogs on short leads please. Livestock in fields. |
