Walk Name | CANCELLED!!! APOLSNormanton to Wakefield Rhubarb Festival |
Description | CANCELLED, APOLS MICK IS NOT WELL The walk is based on a route from Slow Ways (https://beta.slowways.org/). We head away from Normanton Station about 11am and walk across post-industrial sites which are being landscaped for rewilding and leisure. The route skirts Wakefield’s land-fill site (could I make this any more attractive?) and then follows the River Calder, through the Southern Washlands Nature Corridor (great if you're a birdwatcher) to enter Wakefield across the pack-horse and stone-arch bridges passing the Chantry Chapel & ending at the Cathedral (about 1.30pm) and then stroll around spending the rest of the afternoon at the annual Rhubarb Festival for all things pink and tasty(!) (https://yorkshirefoodguide.co.uk/book/wakefield-rhubarb-festival/) Trains back to Sheffield from Wakefield Kirkgate station at times to be arranged. |
