Saturday 1st June 2013: The Other Wentworth and its Follies 
Distance: 9 Miles Ascent: 300m Grade: B2

Route: From the car park we head up hill then through Wortley Hall grounds, over undulating rural countryside to Stainborough Park and Wentworth Castle (with its follies and gardens including national plant collections) and its Grade 1 listed parkland laid out in the early 1800s, where we can potentially see the deer herds and progress with is glasshouse restoration.

Notes: Trans-Pennine Trail Car Park -From Sheffield direction: on A629 just before you enter Wortley 30mph stretch turn left down Finkle Street. Follow this downhill for about 0.6 mile. Before first building on right (Cote Green) and bridge turn right onto track just after Pennine Equine yellow and green sign and phone box (there is a sign for the Trans-Pennine Trail car park but it is hidden by a phone box as you approach using these directions-you will see it as you turn into the track). Drive along track through Pennine Equine livery stables. The car park is after the stable buildings on left. The ground can be rough and muddy or slippery in places if wet. Route may vary depending on weather conditions. Please check website for any last minute changes (eg due to weather). No Toilets at start of the walk. Refreshments available at the end of the walk in Wortley or Thurgoland. There may also be a stop at Wentworth Castle Gardens Terrace Tearooms but please bring packed lunch with you. To ensure the enjoyment of all who participate, numbers will be restricted to 20. Dog Friendly but as there will be deer and young animals in the fields only well behaved dogs to be kept on short leads at all times. Please let me know if you are bringing a dog.

Notes: 1. Three free car parks in Alstonefield. In order to avoid confusion, the start point is the front of the George pub. Car parks and way to the pub are clearly sign posted!
2. Toilet facilities at Alstonefield, Milldale, Dovedale and Ilam and possibly at other points on the walk.
3. Refreshments available on the way and opportunity to celebrate/dine at The George (described as “perfect”) at the end of the walk. See Message Board for further details.

Off path to Ogden Clough and back to Tintwistle.

Route: Leave Chapel road towards Barns Hall, then into Greno woods and then to Wharncliffe woods, to Wortley, leave Wortley and then to Howbrook, then Highgreen to Charlton Brook and back to the Crown and Cushion for refreshments.

Route: A circuit of Dale Dyke reservoir followed a sustained climb to cross Ughill Moor. The return route includes descending quite steeply through the grounds of Sugworth Hall to Strines reservoir. Mainly footpaths, with a couple of short sections on quiet roads.
