Socials and Weekends Away   (Click here for socials archive)

As the weekends away and meals out are always oversubscribed and tend to fill up almost as soon as they hit the website, we have to restrict them to current members of SWG40s. However, everyone is welcome on a pub night out, especially if you are new to the group or you are thinking about joining us.

Before booking onto a weekend, please read the weekends away booking information on the FAQ Page.

Saturday 9.30am
Title Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) South Ridge, Ascent 3182 feet (Amended version)
Distance 8 miles, Time 8 hours
Start, Rhyd-Ddu railway station car park GR SH 571525
Route
From the station we follow the Rhyd-ddu path to Pen ar Lon. We then follow the track to the old quarry at Blwch Cwm Llan. Amazing views down to the Watkin path. Then up some steep steps onto the a broad ridge. There is some very straight forward scrambling ( 3-point contact etc). Then onto Blwch Main and onto the summit ridge. The main ridge is safe but a little exposed in places. The footpath is very good. Then onto the summit and the no doubt the heaving crowds. There is a railway station at the summit for any train spotters! We trace our steps down Blwch Main to the fork for the Rhydd-Ddu path. We take that back down to Rhydd-Ddu.
Notes. No Dogs. Dogs are not allowed in the hut we are staying at. Although the walk is 8 miles it is as an ascent onto the highest peak in Wales. As I said the ridge is a little exposes but the views can be amazing. We did the route a few years ago when we last visited the hut and I have redone it recently with another group I was helping with. Prompt 9.30 start. Be better to car share to the start
Walk leader James Scott. No mobile signal at start of walk. Parking can be difficult so please leave plenty of time to find a space either in the pay and display at the station limited road parking in the village or B4418 Nantlle road.
Walk Leader James

Sunday 9.30am
Title Moel Eilio Horseshoe and the bumps. Ascent 2650 feet (Amended version)
Distance 8. miles. Time 7 hrs
Start. Chamois Mountaineering club hut. ( change of starting point) GR SH532 608. Post code LL55 4SA. Has a car park
Route.
From the hut we make our way across rough ground to the whistling gate. From there we ascend Moel Eileo. the views from the top are amazing. IF people can not do anymore the WHOLE group will return the way we came up. Hopefully everyone will be recovered at the top and we do the bumps ( 4 in all) till we meet the track. We follow this round back to the whistling gate and back to the hut.
Notes
No dogs. If the weather is kind to us there are amazing views again. This is quite tough walk as the waling group I helping with recently discovered!
